1. Importing the Model and Environmental Placement
Every great render starts with a solid foundation. The first step of our workflow is to import the 3D model you prepared in a program like SketchUp, Revit, or 3ds Max into the Lumion 9 scene.
Correct Positioning: When you place the house model in the scene, make sure the structure is not "floating in the air". The building must always integrate organically with the ground.
Camera Angle (Focal Length): Determining your main camera angle right after placing your model prevents you from wasting time on unnecessary environmental details. Generally, for exterior shots, a focal length between 25mm and 35mm makes the architectural structure look majestic and realistic.
2. Landscape Sculpting
A flat surface is the biggest giveaway of a computer-generated 3D model. In the real world, the ground is never perfectly flat.
Using Lumion's Landscape tools, gently raise and lower the terrain around the building. Create a natural slope for pool edges, walkways, and garden borders. These slight elevation differences will allow you to achieve much more realistic shadows when the sunlight hits.

Real Skies: Choose an appropriate HDRI sky for late afternoon or Golden Hour. Rotate the heading of the sun to create both bright and shadowed areas on the facade of the building.
Sun Study: Balance the sun effect to match the Real Skies to prevent shadows from falling too harshly.
Color Correction: Increase the contrast and add a warm, inviting tone to the scene using the Temperature slider.
Skylight and Hyperlight: Do not forget to set the Skylight setting to "Ultra" (or the highest level your project can handle) to calculate the bounced light, especially in shadowed areas.
